The Plate snaps to the Gutter Stick and is designed so you can cut the plate with scissors or similar tool. Cut the plate so it fits in bottom of gutter. Allow overlap of the downspout opening. You do not have to make it too exact. Overlap and covering of downspout is best as long as it fits on width of the floor of gutter.
Snap Plate onto the Gutter Stick. The four buttons on bottom of plate go toward the bottom of the gutter. Those buttons are designed to keep the plate and Gutter Stick up off the floor of the gutter so water can flow without having to go through the Gutter Stick in light water flow.
Just place the Gutter Stick into the downspout. There is a special Weight inside the Gutter Stick which guarantees it will not float and limits movement. No need to do anything else. Regular cleanings are needed to ensure proper flow. So clean your gutters, check downspouts to be sure they are clear and free flowing and clean on regular schedule.
The Gutter Stick will keep rainwater flowing if you cleaned your gutters first as well as checked and cleaned your downspouts. Once placed in the downspout, the Gutter Stick will protect the downspout opening ensuring no clogs as well as the downward lines. Warning: If your downspouts have debris inside or downward drains that go under ground are clogged, that will effect performance of the water flow. If those are clogged, clear out and you will ensure great water flow.
Gutter Stick Certified Dealer Andre Holmes shows us how he installs the Gutter Stick on one of his jobs.
A small percentage of customers with lower height gutters that have downspouts below or around the brackets that attach gutters can experience difficulty installing under those brackets. We have a simple two minute process that works very well.
Mark with permanent ink pen right below the ridge that holds the plate in place. Once you cut at this place the plate will still be able to be snapped into place.
Using a plier or similar tool, cut the downspout teeth below the ridge that holds the plate in place. This will make sliding the Gutter Stick under the bracket easier.
Cut Plate and install over downspout opening on floor of gutter. Once everything is ready for final installation- this plate will snap into the Gutter Stick and remain over the downspout opening to keep protecting from debris.
Slide the Gutter Stick at an angle under the bracket and position the spout where it would snap into Plate over the downspout. Keep this at an angle and then use permanent ink pen to draw lines where the bracket intersects with the left and right side of the Gutter Stick. Ink vertical placement lines on the left side and then reposition on the the right side and mark lines. Now you have marked where the bracket is and can easily cut that section out.
Once the vertical lines are drawn on each side, take some estimation and artistic liberties and mark the horizontal line of each side to show how far down you need to cut so the Gutter Stick will fit under the bracket.
At the Spout, pull the Gutter Stick apart. Be careful as Weight inside the Gutter Stick will become out of place and the weight could damage something if it falls. The weight is heavy and keeps the Gutter Stick from floating and is extremely necessary.
Remove the weight and hold in safe place.
Cut around the Ink lines drawn on each side of the Gutter Stick. Note: The fit needs to be as close as you can without getting too specific. If there are gaps, no worries as water will flow- it does not have to be perfect.
Secure the Weight on one side- very easy.
Line up the posts and snap together until the two pieces are tight against each other.
Last step, slide Gutter Stick at angle under the bracket. Line up the spout where you cut the teeth off and rotate up and snap into plate with the notches that you cut will allow the Gutter Stick to fit under the bracket or spike. That is it! Your Installation is Complete!
After you do the first one, the rest will be like easier and quicker.
Is this worth it? Yes! The extra two minutes you take to make this work will be well worth your efforts. The Gutter Stick is the premium downspout clog prevention tool that keeps water flowing in between cleanings and protects your downspout openings like no other.
As you can see there are small openings around the bracket. Those can be left as water will flow right through those openings.
A reminder to follow all manufacturer safety procedures for all tools used including ladders or similar apparatus. Scissors work well for the plate but all other cutting will require a plier or similar tool. It is advised to perform all cutting of the Gutter Stick parts on the ground in a dry and safe area.
Note- Metal weight inside the Gutter Stick needs to be considered and made known that any customization should be not done near that metal weight.
Professional Gutter Cleaners will come and install and or clean your gutters. If you are not comfortable on ladders or roofs, please hire a professional. They will be glad to help.
